La Ceiba
A lovely port city nestled on the Atlantic coast of Honduras
La Ceiba is a lovely port city nestled on the Atlantic coast of Honduras. La Ceiba is a friendly city with a “small town vibe” that makes tourist feel like home. It is surrounded by lush, verdant jungles, breathtaking mountains, majestic rivers, and sandy beaches.
This vibrant city has been officially proclaimed as the “Eco-Tourism Capital of Honduras”, as well as the “Entertainment Capital of Honduras”, and it wears these distinctions with pride. Everyone in La Ceiba knows how to have fun, and you will find an infinite number of things to do for every interest. Every year, on the third or fourth weeks of May, the city holds its famous carnival to commemorate their patron saint, St. Isidore. During this festive time, the city hosts approximately 500,000 tourists and partygoers from all over Honduras and many countries around the world. Their floats parade, dancing groups and bands flood the streets to host a non-stop party for days.
Local attractions include the Pico Bonito Rain Forest, the islands of Cayos Cochinos, snorkeling tours, the mangroves surrounding Cacao Lagoon, sea kayaking, Cangrejal River white water rafting, relaxing in Glenda’s Paradise Thermal Springs, ziplining on the Sambo Creek Canopy Tour, the amazing Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge (where you will see monkeys, alligators, jaguars and manatees and more!).
You can also feed your shopping needs at the impressive Megaplaza Mall, Uniplaza, Plaza Premier, Plaza Toronjal, Diunsa Superstore and your most demanding dining needs are covered by a wide variety of both traditional restaurant and fast food options!
